For many in the UK the winter of 2013/14 was miserable. One of the wettest winters in the last 250 years caused significant flooding and devastation. Not content with just one natural disaster the media quickly began reporting sinkholes. As one tabloid warned: Terrifying holes that are opening up all over Britain. Well in last months newsletter from the Geological Society of London two members of the British Geological Survey explored whether we were all doomed or if it was just media hype.
